Hello, I'm John Murphy.
If I had to pick any words to sum up my business ethos they would be Stanley's above: I won't sell a car I wouldn't be happy for me or my family members to own and drive ourselves.
It all started in 1983 when, based on my childhood love of cars, I found car auctions far more interesting than my 6th form studies. Not only did I enjoy the spectacle but I discovered that an old Maxi, Viva, Avenger or Escort could be sold for more than the purchase price with a little TLC - what better way to make money than doing something you enjoy!
This progressed in 1984 when I went to work in my father's petrol station in South Manchester. Whilst working in the petrol station shop I always had two or three cars for sale on the edge of the garage forecourt.
In 1987, I was offered a job managing a petrol station in Tarporley, Cheshire. Again, I utilised some forecourt space to sell the odd car until 1990 when a small showroom attached to the petrol station became available. I occupied this showroom and operated a successful small business there for 12 years, known as Tarporley Garage Car Sales.
A change in circumstances caused a break from self-employment for a few years where I worked as a sales executive for Dane County Vauxhall in Winsford, Gorner Skoda & Rybrook Volvo in Warrington and lastly Grenson Mitsubishi in Crewe.
It's now 2009 and I decided it was time to venture out on my own again and, with a handful of cars, I secured the unit I still work from today. A supply of part exchanges from a local new car dealership ensures a ready supply of quality, privately-owned vehicles, many supplied and serviced by them from new. I only keep the best ones for retail and prepare them to a standard where I'd be happy to add them to my own collection.
